What makes an effective logo?
A businesses logo is ultimately their identity. It has history and tells a story, it’s the face of the business or organization. So what actually makes an effective logo design?
An effective logo starts with a great concept and ends with even greater execution. The main design process is to make the logo instantly recognizable, inspiring faith, admiration and an implied superiority. A great logo is distinctive, practical, graphic and often simple in form. It should convey the owner’s intended message in order to be effective. One thing to remember about a logo is that it should be able to be printed in any size and still standout even without color.
The logo creation process may look simple, but in reality it’s not. There is a lot of creativity and thought that goes into the design and creation of even the simplest logo’s on this planet. Following a process results in a logo that meets the clients needs and in the end is effective. This creation process starts with a design brief then followed by research. The most crucial part comes next, conceptualizing and sketching. This is were creativity and inspiration comes into the scene. Throughout the sketching process it’s important take time to reflect, let ideas mature and come back with a fresh perspective. Before the logo is presented it must be revised and little tweaks made if necessary. The presentation must be high quality in order for the client to approve the design, it’s like the musical accompaniment of the logo design.
There is a five point check list to an effective, great logo. Number one, it should be simple which makes it instantly recognisable. Two, a great logo should be memorable. Number three on the list is that it should be timeless. Will the logo still be great in ten, fifteen or even fifty years time? Four, a logo that is versatile and can be used in any size across a variety of media. Finally number five, the logo must be appropriate for the intended audience.
A logo doesn’t directly sell a product but it identifies one, which is just as important.
